It has been known for 80-90 years that the entire universe is more than 99% empty this applies to even the densest of elements such as gold or lead. Big Bang requires that a tiny area of empty space, a trillionth of the area of a full stop expands forever and so creates the universe where there was nothing. Space and random motion already existing in space to the fullest extent that it does to this day. So gravity is a pull on space not an attraction between masses.
